KARMA AND
NUMEROLOGY
The doctrine of karma is quite complex and
would take considerable space to discuss completely. I intend this chapter to
specifically outline some principal themes to clarify karma, particularly as it
relates to numerological interpretation.
Karma is very intimately interwoven with
the doctrine of reincarnation. The soul seeks to evolve by learning from the
variety of experiences available on this material plane of earth. In successive
cycles (or simultaneous in some doctrines), the soul incarnates into a
personality structure, learns about life, adds to its wisdom, and finally
withdraws for introspection upon the inner planes. The personality (physical,
emotional, and mental bodies) provides vehicles through which the soul
interacts with the lower planes. This cycle repeats itself until the soul
finally reaches a point of mastery over the lower vehicles. At that point it no
longer incarnates into the physical realm, but takes on a more subtle and
refined body on a higher plane of manifestation.
Through the personality, the soul
accumulates and eventually masters the various challenges, experiences, and
lessons of life. One symbolical method of describing these life lessons is
through numerology. This does not imply that there are nine simple lessons to
learn. The interaction between the numbers creates shades and subtle mixtures
of life experiences. However, for purposes of clarity and definition, we
concentrate on the primary phases of growth through study of the nine basic
numbers.
One fundamental law of karma is force
which impels consciousness (be it in a one-celled microbe, animal, man, or
angel) to progress toward the next phase of cosmic, universal, planetary,
social, human, animal, or biological growth. In humanity, this law expresses
itself through human will. It is the will factor which urges and compels
expansion and unfoldment through life's experiences.
A second fundamental law of karma is that
of cause and effect. "As you sow, so also shall you reap," is a pertinent
allusion to this law. In the process of learning, we often overdo or avoid the
lesson at hand. This creates imbalance and perpetuates karma. Finally, through
study, higher guidance, and attunement to the soul, we reach a point of balance
wherein the lesson is mastered and we reach a state of balance and harmony.
Once this dharmic balance is reached, the lesson is completed. The individual
is then free to move on to new experiences. There eventually comes a time when
the soul has accumulated and balanced out all of the earth plane lessons. Then
the soul is free from the wheel of karma and enters a new cycle of experience
in a higher realm or level of consciousness.
Almost every number in the chart has
karmic implication in a sense. Each number shows potential skills and
deficiencies. If that lesson were not important to our growth, we would have
chosen otherwise. The very fact we are embodied at this time indicates that we
are still working on karma.
The primary indicators of karma in
numerology are the numbers missing in the name at birth. This defines where
specific imbalance exists. The absence of a number reveals an area of life that
will require extra attention to balance the lesson indicated. It is sometimes
believed that a person with no numbers missing has no karma. Such thinking is
incorrect. Later in this chapter, a special description and explanation will
discuss such a condition in the chart.
Each number missing represents a karmic
lesson not learned. This lifetime is your opportunity to correct the situation
or balance the condition. The absence of a number or
numbers
merely indicates that in previous life or lives you have gone to excess or
failed to master the lesson at issue. There are several references in this book
to the theme of balance, and lack of balance to excess or deficiency. Numerology gives us guidelines regarding our
experiential progress. As previously stated, every number in the chart has a
karmic implication. The missing numbers help define which karmic lessons are in
need of the most attention in this life cycle.
The interpretations for missing numbers will
help you understand how these missing numbers reveal very important insights
into the nature of your character and behavior. Each karmic lesson will be described
separately.
The use of assertive and passive
descriptions in this chapter dealing with karma are designed to help the reader
recognize more accurately the lessons that have been out of balance and now
need harmonizing. The passive description suggests the meaning of the lesson
was likely avoided in a previous life or lives. The assertive paragraph
suggests the lesson of the number was overdone. By reading the two, your own
inner guidance should help you recognize which is applicable.
An entirely new approach to delineating the
karmic impact is also detailed following individual descriptions of the karmic
lessons. This is the karmic accumulation number. The number of karmic
accumulation is determined by adding all the missing numbers into one total (do
not reduce the number to a single digit unless the total is over twenty-two).
For example, if the numbers eight, four, and three, were missing from the name
at birth, the karmic accumulation number would be fifteen (8 +4+3 = 15).
The karmic accumulation number gives
perspective on individuals overall reaction to the weight of the necessary
lessons. It should be emphasized that the dynamics of karmic numbers are mostly
expressed through our lives subconsciously. Only a few are obviously conscious
traits.
The karmic accumulation number hints at a
lot of tendencies acquired through previous personalities. Some of these may
still remain in the subconscious and reveal themselves through the current
personality. By recognizing these traits consciously, one can transmute the
negative and integrate the positive traits into the present life. This provides
a better opportunity for attainment of a more accomplished and fulfilled life.
If this is not accomplished, then one can become bogged down by weight of the
past and never really accomplish desired intentions of this life cycle.
Remember that these traits and karmic
tendencies manifest through the personality and will reveal themselves with
differing hues and nuances, depending upon the personality number. They will
become particularly pronounced when assessing stress patterns or during the
personal year or month that corresponds to the karmic number that is missing. I
hope the descriptions in this chapter will be of particular value, helping you
to understand and more harmoniously cope with the conditions individually
chosen in this lifetime.
It is recognized the descriptions of this
chapter are potentially upsetting and possibly depressing. We need to be
reminded that karma is self imposed illusion. Illusion is the prelude to
enlightenment! The first law of karma brings us to a discomforting awareness,
and the soul finally breaks through with truth. Use your imbalance as a
springboard to accelerated growth.
The descriptions for the karmic lessons
are not intended to be an indictment, and not every statement in each
description need apply. Perhaps just one minor aspect needs resolution.
Discretion is needed when using these to evaluate another person's chart. When
studying them for your own personal edification, read the descriptions and
watch the reactions in your own emotions or intellect. If you are honest with
yourself, those that apply will cause a reaction. If you want to ignore or deny
certain ones, those may very well be especially applicable to your life. The
crux of your self-examination lies in establishing an honest appraisal of your
emotional and intellectual response. Below are some sample interpretations. The
full volume of the published version of Forever
Numerology is now available on the market.
NUMBER ONE KARMIC LESSON
Assertive- There has been a tendency
in past lives to dominate or control the will of another person or many people.
Too much individuality has been a problem in the past, indicating a lack of
concern for others. You have had difficulty trusting others and difficulty
working cooperatively to finish the job.
Passive--There has been inability to trust your
self-confidence. You have relied upon others to make decisions and have not
been willing to face decisions or take advantage of opportunities that were
presented to you. You have been jealous of others who were decisive and
successful. There has been an attitude of over-conservatism and fear of taking
a chance.

NUMBER FIVE KARMIC LESSON
Assertive--This is a past life pattern of
irresponsible and carefree living. There was a kind of cavalier "love 'em
and leave 'em" attitude. You had difficulty establishing responsibility in
personal relations. Inability to stay in one place or at one job is indicated.
There is a strong likelihood of sexual indulgence and promiscuity. It is also
likely that there has been abuse of the senses and emotions through excessive
gambling, drinking, or use of drugs. A disregard for the law is also suggested.
Passive--A past life fear of new
experience, change, and progress is related to this lesson. You were
uncomfortable dealing with human interaction. You possessed little
understanding or tolerance for others. Fear of sex or rejection of sexuality
has created confusion in that aspect of your life. Disappointments or setbacks
may have driven you to sensual self-indulgence.

ZERO
(0) KARMIC LESSON
Does the fact that no numbers are missing
from the name indicate there is no karma? Don't count on it! (No pun intended).
We are all here to work toward balance in our life. Generally, zero karmic
lessons in the chart represent a turning point in consciousness where the
individual has come to a relatively harmonious point in his growth. He or she
has an opportunity to choose from within just how to proceed, having no
specific push from the pressure of missing karmic numbers. If this freedom of
choice is not handled well, the person may create greater imbalance, returning
next time to deal anew with missing numbers.
On the other hand, he may use the information
wisely, thus becoming able to leave the wheel of karma and proceed along the
evolutionary spiral. When an individual is approaching the completion of karma,
no missing numbers can indicate that all of the lessons need to be learned and
understood in relation to each other. When such an understanding is consciously
sought, the sincere seeker enters into the subtle and more esoteric study of
numbers. More will be said about how the absence of missing numbers influences
our consciousness at the end of the following discussions about karmic
accumulation.
PUTTING KARMA
INTO PERSPECTIVE
(WARNING) Sometimes students just starting
to learn about reincarnation and karma will read evaluations like these
describing karmic patterns. They become overly wrought with anxiety and
discomfort because they interpret this to mean they are guilty of doing
everything described in the karmic descriptions. Or perhaps they will
mistakenly believe that is all the karma there is for them to deal with in this
lifetime. There have been authors of numerology books who have stated that we
live nine lives and learn one lesson in each lifetime. I have seen nothing in
literature or from personal experience to support that notion.
From my study of the works of the great
akashic readers, such as Edgar Cayce and more recent channels, a definite theme
emerges. Almost all suggest that we live many more times. I have many friends
who are quite competent channels and intuitive consultants. There appears to be
no exact rule as to how many lives we spend on earth. It seems to be an
individual matter of determination. Although there are many exceptions, the
average for most mortals seems to range from 150 to 250 lives. Therefore, we
may just be working on imbalance from a recent incarnation. Or, we may be
trying to complete a cycle where an issue has been embedded in the subconscious
for many, many lifetimes and is just now coming into focus.
This information is rendered to assist
your understanding, not to upset it. If you are troubled by something written
herein, seek your own inner guidance for clarification. It probably stirs a
strong reaction because there is truth in the description. It is very possible
that some aspect may have been overlooked herein and your own intuitive insight
can add other valuable perspectives.
B. KARMIC
ACCUMULATION NUMBERS
FOUR KARMIC ACCUMULATION
You are a fixed, determined, and hard-working
individual. Life allows you very little time to enjoy the luxuries of fun and
amusement. Without some restraints, you can become a "workaholic",
which could be detrimental to health. Your childhood was likely burdened with
some form of heavy work that caused you resentment. You have respect for
authority and would like to be considered one yourself. You deal with emotions
similar to how you deal with life. When challenged, you may react with
stubbornness, anger, and seething resentment. You like to be one of the crowd
and are very much aware of people's motives. When you experience or witness
injustice, you can become moody and develop a deep simmering dislike, even
hatred. Because you think you have everything working so well, you do not handle
opposition well. You can become outraged and indignant because you do not feel
that anyone has the right to change the precision machine you operate.
Although you are inclined to be somewhat
obstinate, you are fundamentally practical, organized, and particularly good at
maintaining the daily routine of business or office. The subconscious tendency
is to become restless and try changing the routine to suit yourself; however,
you have learned to discipline yourself and work for the good of the organization.
Because of your loyalty to the organization, you may be called upon for a
supervisory role that you can handle well. Your preference is to be left in a
job where you know the routine and do not have to deal with greater
responsibilities and personal problems of the employees. A tendency for
moderation and conservatism runs deep in
your
consciousness, and you may almost reach the top of your work, although you lack
the intense self-sustained drive necessary to reach the top of the competitive
totem pole.
In love, romance, and marriage, you are
loyal and intense. You are faithful to your partner, as a rule. When your work
is not going well, and your mate is not supportive or encouraging, you are
vulnerable to the charms of another admirer, willing to build your pride and
sense of worth. Once attached, you are a potent and conscientious partner. You
take pride in home, family, and possessions, and work hard to be a good
provider.
EIGHT KARMIC ACCUMULATION
You are constantly seeking ways to bolster
your ego and success image. An aspect of pride makes you believe you deserve to
be in a position of authority: however, at the same time, you are unwilling to
put forth the effort making you worthy of the rank. At negative extremes, you
can become ruthless to the point of inflicting pain upon others. You put on an
air of bravado and confidence that masks a very deep-rooted fear: you may not
in fact be able to handle the situation. There is an enormous drive for
success, and most likely you will end up with a significant position and
sizable earnings, unless greed enters your heart. You become uneasy and
dissatisfied readily with the way things are progressing and then doubt the
ability or motives of those with whom you are associated. This indicator
suggests one constantly on the move, teaching business, charitable, or civic
affairs. The early years of your life presented numerous adversities and
impediments, forming a subconscious attitude of defiant belief that you can
meet any challenge.
Most of the previous statements apply to
your business as well as general life attitudes. You have difficulty with
bosses and managers and need much leeway to make decisions. You will not be in
the lower echelon for long, no matter what kind of organization you have
chosen. You have a knack for contributing ideas for better technical
production, more effective utilization of personnel, and you exercise sound
judgment in the expenditure and investment of money. Unfortunately, your
personal financial decisions may not be as fruitful.
You play a convincing charade about
friendships, acting as if you can take 'em or leave 'em, especially with 3 and
5 missing. Underneath this act, you want to be liked by all, and secretly you
need acceptance from others to have peace of mind. Because of your need to have
supportive friendships, you develop loyalty and will offer helpful advice about
any impersonal topics. When friends get too close to your emotional framework,
you become uneasy and temperamental. A strong competitive drive makes it
difficult to accept friends and social acquaintances for what they are instead
of for what they have.
Oddly enough, this businesslike attitude
also permeates your romantic life. Your detached emotional nature generates a
sort of indifferent attitude. You would do best with a strong-willed mate who
is ambitious but able to give you constant boosting. If your goals are too
similar, competition rather than compatibility will no doubt prevail. When
support is not given or the marriage falters, you easily justify outside love
affairs or indulgent habits.
