The doctrine of karma is quite complex and would take considerable space
to discuss completely. I intend this chapter to specifically outline some principal
themes to clarify karma, particularly as it relates to numerological
interpretation.
Karma is very intimately interwoven with the doctrine of reincarnation.
The soul seeks to evolve by learning from the variety of experiences available
on this material plane of earth. In successive cycles (or simultaneous in some
doctrines), the soul incarnates into a personality structure, learns about
life, adds to its wisdom, and finally withdraws for introspection upon the
inner planes. The personality (physical, emotional, and mental bodies) provides
vehicles through which the soul interacts with the lower planes. This cycle
repeats itself until the soul finally reaches a point of mastery over the lower
vehicles. At that point it no longer incarnates into the physical realm, but
takes on a more subtle and refined body on a higher plane of manifestation.
Through the personality, the soul accumulates and eventually masters the
various challenges, experiences, and lessons of life. One symbolical method of describing
these life lessons is through numerology. This does not imply that there are
nine simple lessons to learn. The interaction between the numbers creates
shades and subtle mixtures of life experiences. However, for purposes of
clarity and definition, we concentrate on the primary phases of growth through
study of the nine basic numbers.
One fundamental law of karma is force which impels consciousness (be it
in a one-celled microbe, animal, man, or angel) to progress toward the next
phase of cosmic, universal, planetary, social, human, animal, or biological
growth. In humanity, this law expresses itself through human will. It is the
will factor which urges and compels expansion and unfoldment through life's
experiences.
A second fundamental law of karma is that of cause and effect. "As
you sow, so also shall you reap," is a pertinent allusion to this law. In
the process of learning, we often overdo or avoid the lesson at hand. This
creates imbalance and perpetuates karma. Finally, through study, higher
guidance, and attunement to the soul, we reach a point of balance wherein the
lesson is mastered
4 Karmic Lesson
Assertive--You have worked so hard in the past that it narrowed your
vision and perspective. You became very fixed, opinionated, dogmatic, and
unwilling to try new ideas or ways of doing things. Your convictions prevented
you from understanding others, causing you to be stern and overbearing with
those with whom you worked. You stayed attached to a stubborn and unyielding
disposition. You can get too busy to heed the inner work.
Passive--There has been a decided distaste for hard work and
methodical labor. You preferred ease and comfort without earning your share.
This indicates laziness and a searching for the easy way out. You suffer
personal hang-ups about accepting your own self-worth. Investigate your
feelings of being unworthy of higher work.
Current
Opportunity For Harmony--Success and accomplishment will not come easily,
and you will have to work hard to earn your rewards. Whatever your
achievements, you will likely experience several types of work before settling
down into one which feels right. Any attempts at shortcuts will end in
disappointment or, worse, outright failure. You must build success block by
block on a solid foundation. It is time to focus upon building the inner temple
of consciousness.
