CHAPTER 11

SYMBOLOGY OF LETTERS

At the heart of numerological interpretation are the letters in the name. In the first portion of the book, the numerical equivalents were given for each letter. In this chapter, attention will be directed to the specific symbolical meaning of each letter and its meaning for the natal and progressed chart.

To better understand the symbolical meaning of letters, it is helpful to consider the basic symbols of consciousness that underscore the meaning of the letters. The full circle represents the superconscious of inclusive embracing awareness. The half circle represents the subconscious or soul. Straight lines represent the consciousness; the vertical is usually male and horizontal is female. When angled lines occur in a letter, they represent progress and an exchange of awareness. They may be assertive or responsive, depending upon origin and direction of flows.

As a further aid to delineation of the letters, think of a letter as operating on three levels. The top represents the spiritual aspect, the middle the mental-emotional, and the bottom is symbolic of the physical plane where spirit is planted on earth. Using the letter A as an example:

Following are some samples from the alphabet. The entire alphabet listing is available in the published version of the book. The initials (Wl, Ws, L) are abbreviations for Will, Wisdom, and Love). For further clarification as to the origin of these combinations see the reference chart just after Figure Nine in Chapter Three. There you will find the primary and secondary arrangement of the numbers.

A (1) Wl-Wl--The A symbolically originates on a higher plane, and its thrust is down and outward to the planes below. The horizontal bar represents an intuitive link on the mental level that forms a balanced triangle and then plunges to earth with direct force. When A appears in your name, there is an indication of independence, aspiration and ambition. The direct impact from the A creates rapid thinking and inspired ideas. You are original in action and more often start new projects than finish them. The value one of A makes your actions direct and to the point once your mind is clear. You possess a strong sense of self-reliance and independence and do not like to have others impose or interfere. Yours is a carefree and courageous attitude. You can be blunt to a fault and need to weigh ideas carefully before presenting them. However, you enjoy debates and friendly intellectual sparring with friends and coworkers. When inharmonious, the person can become self-centered, opinionated, and fiercely independent. Many A's in the name stimulate impulsive actions, adventurous longings, and a need to work at completing projects in motion. When A is the first letter in the name, it emphasizes assertiveness, leadership qualities, and willfulness. At the end of the name, the tendency is to initiate good ideas or projects too late.

PROGRESSED CHART-- impulse toward major new undertakings, change in job or residence, breakthroughs in consciousness, spiritual illumination, new friends or opportunities, promotion, overcome lethargy and indifference, can indicate setbacks or reversals when negative, near death experience at extreme.

B (2) Ws-L--The B draws spiritual and physical awareness into the emotional-mental level for its evaluation. This enclosed pattern reveals shyness and introspective withdrawal. People close to you often overlook your sensitivity to criticism and antagonism. You go to great lengths to avoid a tendency toward judgmental attitudes. You are inclined to be critical and finely discriminating in your mental outlook, and you see it as a flaw. You enjoy positions that allow you to negotiate and bring people with conflicts into a position of harmony and deeper understanding. You work best with others, despite your inclination to withdraw. Learning the axioms of cooperation will prove valuable to your future. There is an inclination to carry projects to the tiniest detail; sometimes this angers more impulsive types. Your negative tendencies are self-criticism, indecision, and overzealous opinions of what is right or wrong. When many B's appear in the name, the above negative tendencies may be pronounced. As the first letter in a name, the B stimulates emotions, and brings success through constructive cooperation with others. As the last letter, the tendency is to criticize self for recognizing proper behavior only after the mistake is made. Remember that looking back is only valuable as a guide for future behavior.

PROGRESSED CHART-- examine false survival image, build new image from inner self, nervous strain, build upon intuition, need to rest, seek harmony with others, improvement in career or work, time to cooperate, do not force issues, make improvements in home, seek cause to emotional disharmony.

M (I3 or 4) Wl-Wl--M grasps concepts on the mental-emotional level and then secures them to a firm sense of reality. You are a natural builder, and seek solid ground upon which to build your life and principles. You have a natural technical and organizational ability that serves you well in the practical world. Your controlled emotional nature makes you appear aloof and difficult to know completely. You keep yourself under strict discipline; personal control is always an issue to you. When M is the first letter in the name, it gives qualities of integrity, concentration, and service to man. Many M's can indicate hard-headedness and narrow attitudes. When M is the last letter in the name, there is resistance to building a proper foundation and credentials for one's efforts. M in the name stresses reasoning capability, but you can experience difficulty expressing your ideas clearly to others. Your work is to build higher ideals into form.

PROGRESSED CHART--financial gains with proper foundation, financial lessons, watch for strain on health, future planning, deal with added demands from work and career, travel, secret affairs, review spiritual values and goals, caution with contracts and business, try to avoid needless quarrels, overcome opposition by facing solutions squarely.

N (14 or 5) Ws-Ws--The flow of the letter N is one of rapid inspiration from above, tempered with evaluation of experience below. The N seeks experience and knowledge of the world and then places the lessons before the higher self for appraisal prior to new growth. You are energetic, adventurous, and constantly turning over new stones in your quest. A constant search for new knowledge can make your belief structure inconsistent; yet, your restless pursuit of knowledge tends to a deep faith and optimism toward life. Your need for change and excitement gives you an openness and appeal which summons other intriguing personalities. You enjoy luxury, sensual comfort, and are prone to indulgence. When N is the first letter, it enhances social contact and recognition. If N is the last letter in the name, there is a tendency to perform services of giving as a means to get something in return at a later date. You are at your best in positions dealing with people on a daily basis.

PROGRESSED CHART--exercise talents and expand horizons, fluctuations in career and finances, brings sensual intrigue, confusion deciphering proper spiritual path, unique and adventurous experiences, brings new friends and important social contacts, work on underlying friction in family, restless search for love and fulfillment, physical exercise important.

Z (26 or 8) Wl-Wl--The Z transfers information between levels like a bolt of lightning. The influence of Z is very potent, and its presence has a marked effect on consciousness. You have abundant self-confidence, drive, and a great deal of energy. The Z is like pure energy and as such can be used constructively or with devious motive. When positively directed, it brings leadership, success with money, and organizational efficiency. You should avoid exaggeration and excesses in personal habits. Misuse of material goods will chain the soul and bind growth. You have a magnetic influence with the masses and must guard how you use influence. When Z is the first letter in the name, it can bring prophetic abilities, enhance public recognition, and often put one into unconventional professions. As the last letter, it warns of the pitfall associated with misuse of wealth and personal power. "Regeneration" is an important word for Z people.

PROGRESSED CHART--wise judgment can bring gains in wealth and/or prestige, overcome limitations, take tremendous strides, put universal law into practice, misguided emotions can be a strain on health, avoid schemes and earn your way honestly, brings unusual mate and friends, seek efficiency with occult and divine studies, stresses investigation and truth.

The reader might want to consider, when interpreting the significance of the letter symbolism in the progressed chart, the vibrational influence of each specific year the letter covers. For example, let us use the letter G. The first year in the letter G's influence will have a slightly different shade than the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh year of its periodicity. The accomplished student will eventually want to blend the numerical value of each year with the vibrational quality of the number.

For instance, in the fourth year of the G's influence, the individual will feel the need to discipline the self to best attune to accumulate wisdom within. In the fifth year, there will be expansion and more conscious expression of the innate capacities of mind and soul. By developing this awareness, you will add considerable subtlety and insight to your art of interpretation. See the last chapter for more details regarding procedure for arranging the chart. With time and practice, you will be able to establish insights for more thorough personal evaluations.
