12 Can Numerology Help Me Balance The male-Female Polarity?

Throughout this volume there has been frequent referral to the duality within creation and its presence in all aspects of evolution. The classic examples of this would be yin and yang, day and night, death and life, good and evil, proton and electron, masculine and feminine, active and passive and so forth. The third factor to this dance is that force in nature which seeks reconciliation and balance between the two polarities.

These three primal forces translate into active (or assertive); receptive (or passive); and equilibrium (or balance). These are reflections of the original dynamics of the ring cosmos, chaos and ring-pass-not which is detailed in Chapters 14 and 15.

The oriental cultures refer to the yin, yang and Tao. In western culture that has become yin (feminine), yang (masculine) and Tao. Later in the chapters about cosmology the reader will see how these primal forces work throughout all phases of evolution macro and micro and how central they are to understanding the real meaning of numbers.

These cosmic archetypes are reflected in the trinities of major religions. In Christianity there is the father, son and the Holy Ghost. Another trinity would be Isis, Osiris and Horus. In the Hindu religion it is Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.

Most people think of this duality in terms of the daily interaction between men and women in marriage, business and other human activities. It is easy to overlook the fact that as humans we possess both the anima and animus. The male has an inner female and the female has an inner male. Throughout my years of therapeutic practice I constantly assisted clients in processing the interaction of the dance between the two polarities.

The primary influence upon the child’s early development of personality patterns are, of course, the parents. The father is the primary archetype of the masculine side and the mother the same for the feminine side. Also very important are the grandmothers and the grandfathers. Every family has dysfunctional issues and the children develop various coping strategies to survive the dysfunctionality. As a therapist I found myself repeatedly explaining to clients how to separate from identification with daddy and develop connection to their own masculine self. Or separate from connection to mommy’s negative anima and nurture the relationship with one’s own true feminine self. There are countless pages of literature that help to assist with integration of the two polarities of our personality.

For purposes of definition the feminine energy is usually thought of as powerful, nurturing, wise and knowing. The feminine energy possesses the potential and possibility of all that is to come. It is circular and all embracing. The masculine energy is active, linear, and dynamic. The male energy takes the power and possibility of the feminine side; organizes it, and does something with it. Feminine energy is the energy of being. Masculine energy is the energy of doing.

When a man is insecure within himself he will often overcompensate by driving faster than anyone, or conquering women, drinking more beer, earning more money or compulsively collecting trophies to prove his masculinity. It is similar with a woman when she is insecure with her masculinity, she will overcompensate, compete and become overly aggressive.

When a woman is insecure within herself she starts to doubt and withdraw and withhold herself from giving and nurturing relationships. She turns aggression into a form of passive anger through resentment and withdrawal of affection, and love. It is similar with a man when he goes into negative anima and becomes cold and indifferent to another’s needs.

Modern psychology reflects an understanding of polarities in the theory of anima-animus. It was Carl Jung who first presented this concept to the profession. It is the theory that within the male human is his anima or feminine side. Within the female human is the animus or masculine side. That idea has been developed and refined over time and it is now a general realization within therapy that we have both an interior male and female portion of self.

One of the most desirable goals for the individual seeking well being and resolution of the dysfunction is to establish a conscious and healthy connection with the inner female and inner male. This process requires resolving negative associations with the archetypes that are the result of growing up with toxic and dysfunctional parents. The distorted interaction with these parents causes major conflict with the connection to the individual’s real inner self.

We see external signs of these in society as the two opposite sexes try to find a more harmonious and fulfilled way of life. Women are becoming more assertive and wanting equal pay and equal rights. They are speaking out against once tolerated abuse. They seek more recognition in the politics and formation of social regulations and reforms.

At the same time men have been given more permission to demonstrate feelings and emotions. They are wearing more demonstrative colors, growing their hair longer, and talking of male bonding support groups to nurture male needs. The stigma of effeminate behavior being mistaken as homosexual behavior is diminishing. The growing acceptance of alternative lifestyles that include same sex unions is another sign of society seeking to find a point of balance in identity. Working with numerology can help identify some of the struggles going on and act as a source of insight to shed light on these issues.

Contrary to some popular thinking, men and women are not equal. They are complements to each other, and both need the other to work through the balancing act upon this planet earth. This struggle of duality reaching for a point of synthesis and integration is a very central key to numerology interpretation.

Each number truly has its own masculine and feminine attributes. These two aspects have been addressed throughout this volume. In the current social climate of our present western culture the masculine qualities of the numbers 1, 4, 7 and 8 are more frequently manifested in our daily mundane activities. The feminine side of numbers 2, 3, 6 and 9 are most predominantly manifested in our current society. The number 5 is universal to all life and goes unequivocally both ways.

When you see a lot of 1, 4, 7 or 8’s in a woman’s chart, you find a major struggle with father issues and usually negative animus issues. In an inordinately high (and I am certain statistically significant) number of cases I have seen a repeated pattern reoccurring regarding the number 8. When 8 is the life number (or similarly the personality number), the woman was often the second or third daughter. There was a strong desire by one or both parents for a boy. Subsequently, on an unconsciousness level, the girl has tried to be that son in order to get daddy’s love and appreciation. Such an unconscious drive formed at conception often develops at the expense of her own femininity. This can result in conflicts with men and sexual problems with her feminine anatomy.

Men with a lot of 2, 3, 6 and 9’s prominent in the chart often have strong maternal identification and creative, emotional temperaments. This often indicates underlying issues of conflict with mother and women in his life. Men are learning to be more open with their positive feminine attributes that can be a real plus in social interaction. Contrary to old role models, a man who is in touch with his feminine self becomes more powerful and has more to offer as a man. A woman who is in touch with her healthy inner male is similarly more confident and active in her caring and spreading the powers and rewards of being a woman.

Ages and eons from now as the search for integration continues, we will likely one day merge back into androgynous angelic like beings of ethereal light.
