INTRODUCTION TO NUMBERS
Numerology is the study of symbol, cycle, and vibration. The exact origin of numerology is discreetly buried in the mists of time. The study began with man's earliest attempt to understand the relationship between self and the cosmos. In recorded history it is known that numbers were significant in the Sanskrit of the ancient Hindu culture. the evolution of modern numerology was also influenced by the Arabic system of numbers. Yet another important branch of numbers history is in the tradition of the Kabbala.
Within the writings of these cultures is a wealth of yet undiscovered wisdom based upon the esoteric teachings of their numerical traditions. The Bible is richly laden with symbolism based upon numbers.
The individual most responsible for influencing the method of numerology in use today was Pythagoras, a Greek philosopher born between approximately 600 and 590 BC. Pythagoras founded a school where the instruction of mathematics, music, astronomy, and philosophy was conducted in conjunction with esoteric wisdom. He taught the relationship between man and the divine laws as reflected in the mathematics of numbers. Upon his philosophical strength the study of numerology, as it is today, has been established.
Today's scientists and technologists are paying ever-increasing attention to the use of vibrations and frequencies. The advent of electricity introduced whole new applications of working with natural cycles. Radio, television, x-rays, and sub-atomic cycles, are some facets of modern technology that have opened the door to greater study and application of the principles of cyclical oscillations. Physicists have learned that materials previously defined as inert, also have their own identity, which is established by their rate of vibration or frequency. New knowledge of the biorhythm cycles has made the public more knowledgeable about just how important it is to be aware of the cyclical patterns in our daily life.
The historical portrait provided herein is admittedly short
and succinct. Other previous writers on the subject have provided
more details for the historical minded. The emphasis of this
volume is upon the application of numerical knowledge in the here
and now.
Numerology provides a means of understanding cyclical patterns or qualities related specifically to the individual's personal life. By understanding one's own particular rhythm, it becomes easier to flow with life. With such understanding one can become the master of fate, rather than a victim of destiny's circumstances. Its application is just as significant today as with the ancient seeker. In fact, its application today may be more meaningful today in an age of rampart materialism and existential crisis.
A MORE PERSONAL INTRODUCTION TO NUMBERS
Numerology in the whole scheme of things is a relatively unknown subdivision among a category of studies generally known as the occult, metaphysics, New Age, self-awareness, arcane, and/or esoteric philosophies. To the general public it is a bunch of unsubstantiated nonsense (although the general person, who after saying that, can frequently be found turning the page of the newspaper to check their daily horoscope). The dogmatic religious person is likely to deem numerology to be blasphemous, pagan, heathen, profane, and perhaps sinful. A scientifically oriented individual might think of it as misleading, pseudoscientific, ridiculous, and unworthy of attention. As a practitioner of over forty years I have listened to all of those comments and criticisms. Why on earth would a person with three academic degrees and years of practice as a therapist devote so much attention to such an obscure field of knowledge? Good question. Perhaps it makes more sense if you look at it this way.
Numerology is the study of vibration, cycle and rhythm. As the seeker works deeply and intimately with numbers, that seeker extends their range of sensitivity to increasingly expanded levels of consciousness and awareness. This leads to the dance with the true cycles, rhythms and vibrations of creation. It can open the door to a direct experiential emersion into the nature and dynamics of color, sound, music, quantum physics, cosmology, the double helix DNA strand, dance, theology and psychology just to mention a few areas of exploration.
It is the intuitive partner of mathematics. Mathematicians perform endless calculations in an attempt to confirm minute truths within the greater whole. The enlightened numerologist lives in contact with the whole, but may have trouble trying to convey the magnitude of such an experience. It can also be uninspiring to dabble with the parts once you have connected to the totality. Mathematicians could often benefit by trusting the intuitive expansion that comes from working with numbers. Numerologist could often benefit by having the mathematical skills to better measure and quantify their experiential knowing.
If you allow consciousness to follow the vibratory path through the multiple levels of consciousness, you come to the original vibration and cycles of creation. From this vantage point of awareness one experiences first hand the very essences of man (divine and human). And at this point of awareness the deepest lessons of psychology, theology and cosmology all come together.
The academic cosmologists look outward from this level and try to put together the secrets of how creation began. The experienced and attuned numerologist experiences first hand from memory the process of creation and resonates to the experiential event from within. Having experienced that connection to the oneness, it can be difficult at times to focus upon the distractions of lesser planes (particularly the material). On the other side of the paradox, one realizes the lesser planes and laws are but mere reflections of the greater glory set in motion at the beginning by the creator.
As one learns to resonate with his/her own personal numbers, that person can then expand focus to resonating with other brothers and sister of humanity. Then one can learn to resonate with nature and all of her kingdoms. From there comes planetary attunement, systemic attunement, galactic attunement and connectedness to the Source.
One can follow the progression of attunement to the most inner core of Self. At the central core comes the awareness of all creation and the opportunity to interact with creation from a central point of being. Such is the path of the awakening mystic who wafts with the rhythms of the cosmos and delights in the true dance of life.
